Baseball Wins Two on Friday over East Central

CANYON, Texas - With a pair of wins over East Central, the West Texas A&M baseball team ended its five game slide with a 7-4 victory in game one and a 3-2 win in the second game at Potter County Memorial Stadium on Friday. Game one recap WTAMU gave up two first inning runs to ECU, but bounced back to score seven unanswered runs in the second, third and fourth innings. Shortstop Gabe Gonzalez helped get the Buffs on the board, as he doubled to knock in Coby Corley. The next WTAMU run was scored when Cody Dean singled to left to score Gonzalez. In the Buffs third inning, Brady Ribinskas had two of his game-high three RBI when he doubled to left to score Justin Graham and Brian Schupp. WTAMU was back at it again in the fourth, as Ribinskas drove in his third run and Matt Ray singled to left to knock in Dean. The final run for WTAMU in game one was scored when Schupp singled to knock in Patrick Jones. On the mound for the Buffs was Eric Henderson, who pitched 6.1 innings scattered seven hits and gave up four earned runs. Henderson also picked up his first win in a WTAMU uniform and Cody Sessions earned his first career save. Game two recap The second game of Friday afternoon was an extra inning pitchers duel, as senior southpaw Jessie Rodriguez picked up his first win of the season. The Levelland, Texas, native threw a complete game six hitter, giving up just two runs, with one earned and striking out six. WTAMU struck first in the second inning, as Ribinskas hit a tape measure shot over the right field fence. The Buffs tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on a two out hit, as Graham singled to left. For the Buffs in the bottom on the ninth, Alan Trayler had first collegiate hit to lead the inning off. Trayler was advanced to second after A.J. Knight sacrificed, and Trayler was moved to third after Caleb Palmer flew out to deep right. With two down once again, Dean was able to score Trayler after Tiger first basemen Scott Nevland dropped the ball to end the game. The Buffs are now 4-9 on the 2007 season and ECU falls to 3-10 on its year, both teams will play again Saturday at noon. |
