EDMOND, Okla. - The West Texas A&M baseball squad dropped both games to complete the sweep by Lone Star Conference North Division favorite, the University of Central Oklahoma, Saturday at Broncho Field. After falling in the first game, 7-4, WTAMU jumped to an early three-run lead in the series finale, but watched that lead dwindle, losing, 11-7.

WTAMU moves to 2-9 on the young season, while the UCO advances to 6-3-1.

Game #1 Recap

Despite out-hitting the Bronchos, 12-10, the Buffs could not overcome an early four run deficit in the first inning. Junior southpaw Bart Cannon (2-1, 6.00 ERA) went the distance for WTAMU, giving up all seven earned runs while also striking out seven UCO batters.

At the dish, the Buffs could muster only four runs on 12 hits. Junior third baseman Brian Schupp led WTAMU, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Fellow juniors Justin Graham and Coby Corley followed with two hits apiece.

Game #2 Recap

After dropping the first three games of the series, the Buffs' offense exploded for seven runs in the first four innings. Unfortunately, UCO scored eleven runs in the first four innings.

Sophomore Brandon Corbitt took the loss, falling to 0-2 in 2007. The Stinnett, Texas, native allowed 10 earned runs in 3.2 innings while striking out two UCO batters. Freshman Cole Peyson came in to relieve Corbitt, going 2.1 innings without allowing a hit and striking out three.

Junior catcher Kent Wright went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Schupp had another good game, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Senior leadoff man Cody Dean also had two hits to go with an RBI and a run scored.

WTAMU will return to host East Central University in Lone Star Conference crossover play on March 2-3 at Potter County Memorial Stadium in Amarillo.
