YOUNGSTOWN, OH - The Wright State women's soccer team extended their unbeaten streak to four games with a 3-0 victory at Youngtown State on Sunday afternoon. Jess Rooma connected on a tally in the first half and Amber Kasmer tallied a pair of goals in the second half in the victory.
The Raiders got the scoring started in the 39th minute when Rooma took an assist from Megan Mattioda and buried it into the back of the net. It was the fourth goal of the season for Rooma and the first assist of the match for Mattioda.
In the first half, the Raiders out-shot YSU 13-5 and took three corner kicks to zero for the host Penguins.
WSU continued the pressure in the second half as Kasmer would add a pair of goals within one minute of each other. Kasmer added the first goal at the 65:54 mark on a double assist from Amy Miller and Mattioda. The rookie then struck with an unassisted marker at the 66:50 mark.
It was the first multi-goal game of Kasmer's career and gives her at least one goal in six straight matches. The freshman now has eight goals on the season and with her three assists she now has 19 points.
Mattioda handed out two helpers in the match and gives her four on the season and 15 for her career. The 15 assists rank her seventh on the WSU all-time list, tying her with Chris Hawker and Mary Beth Young on the list.
WSU's offense out-shot YSU by a final margin of 18-5 and took nine shots on-goal to only one for the Penguins. YSU keeper Caitlin Bodzioney made six saves in the match to only one for WSU's Meghan Hackerson.
Hackerson posted her sixth shutout of the season at YSU and moves into a tie for fourth on the single-season shutouts list. Hackerson is tied with Steph Comisar and Linda Duvall and is only three shutouts away from tying the school record for shutouts in a season.
