Dec. 13, 2007
DAYTON, OH - The Wright State swimming and diving program have completed the first half of their season with a dual meet sweep of Tampa. The Raiders have enjoyed a solid start to the 2007-08 season, with the men's squad breaking one school record and the women's topping a trio of school marks.
On the women's side of things the Raiders have claimed pool records in the 200 medley relay, in a time of 1:49.24, and the 400 medley relay, posting a time of 3:56.73.
Then, at the Miami Invitational, the Green and Gold set a school record in the 800 free relay. The team of Krystyna Wieczerzak, Kelsey Cooper, Kassie Schmidt and Mabel Fernandez swam a time of 7:35.93, besting the old record by almost two seconds.
Wieczerzak also has her own school record, as she topped the 200 backstroke mark at the Miami Invitational. The freshman is now a part of two school records and has the top time in four events for WSU this season.
Jessica Weidert set an individual school record at the Miami Invitational when she placed second in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:18.44. The senior bested the old school mark of 2:19.41 that was held by Kelly Leaman from 1994. In the process, Weidert posted a NCAA "B" qualifying time.
The 6-1 record in dual meets this season is now the best start in school history, besting the 2000-01 and 1993-94 squads, who each started the season 5-1. Thus far in 2007, Wieczerzak and Weidert have each garnered Swimmer of the Week honors from the Horizon League.
The men's team has started the season with a 5-1 mark in dual meets, marking the fourth time in school history they have accomplished the feat. This is tied for the second best start in school history, sitting behind the 2006-07 team that started 7-0.

The Raiders have swept five opponents this season, winning both the men's and women's meet against Milwaukee, Green Bay, UIC, Valparaiso and Tampa. The meet at Tampa was the SwimmingWorldMagazine.com Meet of the Week and the Raiders came away with a pair of victories.
The Green and Gold will open the 2008 portion of their schedule with a dual meet at Ohio State on January 11. The Raiders will take on the Buckeyes starting at 5:00 in Columbus.
