MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Sept. 5, 2007) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's and women's cross country team are in action this weekend at the Crusader Invitational, Friday evening in Valparaiso, Ind.

The meet is hosted by Valparaiso, the newest member of the Horizon League, and kicks off at 5 p.m.

Milwaukee opened the 2007 campaign last weekend at the UIC Invitational. The Panther women posted a record of 2-4-1, including a win and tie against league opponents. UWM's men went 1-5 with a win over Chicago State.

Freshman Tanaiya Fisher led the women's side, taking 25th place, while junior Nick Porter was the top men's finisher with a 23rd-place finish.

The Panthers are expected to field a complete team after sending mostly underclassmen to UIC. Between the two squads, seven freshmen, five sophomores and one junior competed for Milwaukee.

UWM competed at the Crusader Invitational last season, with both the men and women taking second among six teams. Holly Nearman was the women's top finisher, taking 12th. Nick Hawley took 12th and Mike Sorenson 14th as the second and third finishers at the meet last season.
