Panther Duo Nets Academic All-League Honors

Slamka, Christian each earn third-straight outdoor award

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (June 28, 2006) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team placed two student-athletes on the Academic All-Horizon League Team it was announced today by the league office.

Seniors Katie Slamka and Anna Christian each garnered the honor for the third-straight outdoor season. Slamka is being honored for the fifth time between indoor and outdoor track, while Christian's award is the sixth of her career, including cross country.

Slamka won a third-straight Horizon League Championship in the 400m hurdles in May, just one of four events she scored in at the meet. The Racine, Wis., native also earned all-league second team honors in the 100m hurdles, finished third in the javelin and fourth in the high jump. She also competed in the long jump, taking seventh. A kinesiology major, Slamka has excelled in the classroom, as well, boasting a 3.795 grade point average.

Christian competed in just one event at the league championships, but made it count. She was named all-league second team after taking second in the 10,000m, just 1.74 seconds off the first-place time. A native of Horicon, Wis., Christian is an architecture major and has maintained a 3.713 GPA.
