UWM Wins 11-of-16 Events Competed In At Benedictine Invite
LISLE, Ill. (April 22, 2006) - Three Panthers won two events each as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's track and field team won 11-of-16 events it competed in on its way to first place at the Illinois Benedictine, Saturday in Lisle, Ill. UWM scored 245 points on the day, 152 more than second place (93) and more points than second, third and fourth place combined (232.5). Seniors Timeka Walker and Katie Slamka and freshman Kicha Cary each won two events for the Panthers to lead the way. Walker won both the 100m and 200m, running a time of 24.92 in the 200m. In the 100m, she crossed the line in 12.11 for the victory. Slamka swept the two hurdle events, while Cary swept the horizontal jumps. Slamka won the 100m hurdles in 14.79 and ran the 400m hurdles in 1:03.10. Meanwhile, Cary leapt 17-4 3/4 in winning the long jump and 35-11 1/2 in the triple jump. Also winning running events was seniors Griffin McNulty and Tenia Fisher, sophomore Shannon Buttchen and the 4x100m relay. McNulty set a personal record in winning the 800m, improving her third-best time in school history to 2:13.23. Fisher ran the 1500m in 4:55.68 and Buttchen won the 400m by more than two seconds with a time of 58.59. The 4x100m relay team crossed the line in 47.39 to pace the event. Senior Stephanie Ray rounded out the Panthers' winners by clearing 11-5 3/4 to top the pole vault field. UWM returns to action next weekend at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. The meet kicks off Thursday (April 27) and runs through Saturday.
