Severson, Kane Named To ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Nov. 1, 2007) - Senior Joanna Severson and junior Erin Kane of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). CoSIDA announced its academic all-district teams today. Severson has split time between the midfield and defense this season, tallying three goals on the year. She has also contributed to a Panther defense that spent much of the season among the national leaders in most statistical categories. Severson is an accounting/finance major and boasts a 3.92 grade point average. Kane has started all 18 goames in goal for Milwaukee, posting an 11-4-3 record and 0.70 goals against average. She has tallied nine solo shutouts and combined on another, pushing her already school and league record career total to 35. Oct. 21 she also tied the school record for career wins by a goalkeeper (36), while surpassing the school record for goalkeeper minutes played in a career. Kane is a pre-veterinary major and has a 3.35 GPA. Last season, Ginny Graczyk was an Academic All-America Second Team member, while Severson joined her on the academic all-district first team. The Panthers are in action next Saturday, as they host Cleveland State in the Horizon League Tournament quarterfinals at Engelmann Field. UWM and CSU kick off at 6 p.m. Should Milwaukee win, it would host the semifinals and championship rounds Nov. 9-11.
