Hawley, Panthers Take Third At Valparaiso Invitational
VALPARAISO, Ind. (Sept. 7, 2007) - Senior Nick Hawley took third place to pace the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's cross country team to a third-place finish Friday evening at the Valparaiso Invitational. The Panthers scored 75 points, trailing only Notre Dame with 33 points and host Valpo with 63. They also finished ahead of league foes Wright State in fourth place (100 points) and Green Bay in sixth (129). St. Joseph's College rounded out the field in fifth place with 114 points. Hawley ran a time of 20:10 for third place, just off the race winner Chris Rodriguez from Notre Dame at 19:51. Sophomores Ryan Mleziva and Mike Sorenson finished together in 12th and 13th places. Mleziva ran a time of 20:38 and Sorenson finishing two seconds back in 20:40. Sophomore Matt Driefke was 23rd in 21:16 and freshman Andrew Fox was UWM's fifth finisher in 21:24, taking 26th. Freshman Jeff Winkelman took 34th in 21:38 and sophomore Eric Pitt was 28th in 22:01 to complete the team's top seven. Milwaukee has three weeks off before competing at the Roy Griak Invitational, Sept. 29, in Minneapolis.
