Track Ends Season With Strong Showing NCAA RegionalMay 28, 2005
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Four members of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's and women's track and field teams closed out their 2005 seasons with strong showings at the NCAA Mideast Regional this weekend in Bloomington, Ind. Junior Nick Wichert and sophomores Jeremy Major and Nick Gretz represented the Panther men, while sophomore Timeka Walker was the lone women's competitor. Wichert and Gretz represented Milwaukee in the throws, as Wichert competed in the hammer throw and Gretz both the discus and shot put. In the hammer, Wichert threw 178-0 to place 21st. Gretz threw 155-10 for 27th in the discus, while his shot put distance of 49-5 1/2 placed him 29th. UWM's highest finisher at the meet, Majors ran to a 14th-place finish in the preliminaries. The Horizon League Champion in the event, he crossed the line in 1:51.26. Walker was last in action at the league meet, where she won both the 100m and 200m with league-record times. This weekend, she ran in the prelims of both events on Friday, taking 32nd in the 100m and 32nd in the 100m. The Milwaukee native crossed the line in the 100m in 12.30 and posted a time of 24.99 in the 200m.
