COLUMBIA, Mo. (May 26, 2007) - Junior Amber Curtis took sixth in the discus throw and the men's 4x400m relay broke a school record to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on the final day of the NCAA Mideast Track and Field Championships Saturday in Columbia.

Curtis threw 164-1 in the discus to place sixth and just miss out on an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships. By finishing in the top 12, she is eligible for an at-large berth to the national meet on Tuesday. She scored three points for her finish, the first points scored by the Milwaukee women at the regional meet.

On the men's side, the final day was highlighted by the 4x400m relay running a school-record time of 3:11.12 to tie for 13th. The time bettered the school mark of 3:12.22 set in 2004. Senior Jeremy Majors, sophomore Patrick Casey and freshmen Tyler Bucholz and Isaiah Adams combined on the effort.

Senior Nick Gretz and junior Darren Cole each posted 19th-place finishes on Saturday. Gretz, who qualified for the NCAA Championships Friday in the discus, threw 54-10 3/4 for 19th in the shot put. Cole, on the other hand, leapt 48-0 in the triple jump.

The Panther men finished the meet with four points and tied for 34th in the team standings, while the women's three points tied them for 36th.

 

 

The NCAA Championships are June 6-9 in Sacramento, Calif.
