Panther Men Show Strong At Alex Wilson InviteMarch 5, 2005
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Junior Dan Schultz set the school pole vault record and Panthers fell just short of two more marks at the Alex Wilson Invitational this weekend in South Bend, Ind. The meet, hosted by Notre Dame, was a last chance qualifer and marks the end of the indoor season. Schultz, who had tied Andy Chizzo's school record of 15-9 earlier this season, posted a final height of 15-9 3/4 to set himself apart atop the school charts. His performance also placed him 10th in the event. Two more Panther newcomers fell just short, establishing the second-best times in their events. In the 400m, freshman Jay Schweitzer ran a time of 48.60 to finish 16th, and was just two-hundredths of a second off Adam Hobler's school standard set last season. Sophomore transfer Trentin Edwards continued to moved up the school sprint charts, moving to second on the 200m list with his time of 21.94. He was just 0.29 seconds shy of the school mark as he took seventh. Edwards also placed ninth in the preliminaries of the 60m with a time of 7.10. A strong point for the Panthers all season, they had four runners competing in the 800m. Sophomore Justin Gorman led the pack, taking sixth with a time of 1:51.10, while junior Gabe Wagoner was close behind in sixth with a time of 1:51.48. Sophomore Jeremy Majors and junior Elliot Enright each stablished personal-best times for the Panthers in taking 10th and 13th. Majors finished in 1:52.31 and Enright crossed the line in 1:53.01.
In the 5000m, junior Josh Nygren finished 20th with a time of 14:39.52, which established a personal record and moved him to third on the UWM top-10 list. The Alex Wilson Invitational marks the conclusion of the indoor track and field season. Milwaukee kicks off its outdoor season at the Raleigh Relays, March 25-26 in Raleigh, N.C. |
