AMES, Iowa - Junior Dan Schultz tied the school pole vault record and Panthers posted three of the top-five fastest 800m times in school history to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's track and field at the Iowa State Cyclone Classic Friday and Saturday in Ames, Iowa.

"The second day (of the event) went a lot better than the first," head coach Pete Corfeld. "When we got here on the first day we had a little rough going. Our performances really improved on Saturday."

After clearing 15-7 in his first meet with the Panthers last weekend, Schultz final height of 15-9 tied the school record set by Andy Chizzo in 1992. A two-time Division III All-American at UW-Platteville, he finished in a tie for ninth in the event.

As has been the story all season, Milwaukee posted a dominant performance in the 800m. Sophomore Justin Gorman led the way, finishing 24th in 1:50.85. Junior Gabe Wagoner went 30th in 1:51.42 and sophomore Jeremy Majors took 37th in 1:52.28. The trio's times stand as the third, fourth and fifth-fastest times in school history.

"We had a great showing in the 800m," Corfeld said. "For Justin Gorman and Jeremy Majors, their times were lifetime bests indoors or outdoors. That was great for them."

Freshman Jay Schweitzer continued to work his way up the school 400m list, taking 42nd in the event with a time of 49.02. His time is now fourth all-time, after he entered the weekend fifth in school history. Another newcomer to work his way up the list was sophomore Trentin Edwards in both the 60m and 200m. In the 60m, he ran the sixth-fastest time of 7.23, before posting the number-nine time of 22.70 in the 200m.

In the distance events, junior Josh Nygren led the way, taking 24th in the 3000m on Saturday. He ran the fifth-fastest time by a Panther, crossing the line in 8:24.87. Junior Nate Weiland finished 35th in the 5000m on Friday, with his time of 14:53.77, UWM's seventh-best time in the event.

The Panthers return to action next weekend with their only home meet of 2005. Milwaukee plays host to the UWM Panther Tune Up in Friday (Feb. 18) at the Klotsche Center. Action gets underway at 4 p.m.
