Viall Wins 600m At Northern Iowa Open

Junior sets personal best in lone Panther win

MILWAUKEE - Nick Viall set a personal best in winning the 600m at the Northern Iowa Open Saturday in Cedar Falls, Iowa, to collect the only win on the day for the Panther men's track and field team. Viall won the event in 1:20.51, shaving more than a second off his previous best in the event.

Gabe Wagoner joined Viall in the top six in the event, finishing second in 1:22.19. Eric Gresham was fifth in the 400m in 50.39, with Nick Bruskewitz finishing third in the 800m in 1:55.27 and Elliot Enright fourth in the same event in 1:55.44.

Other strong peformances included Andy Kivioja picking up a fifth-place mark in the 1000m in 2:32.73, while Steve Capela was sixth in the long jump, measuring out at 20-11.25. Sean Cludy picked up a fifth-place finish in the triple jump, jumping 43-1.75. Scott Bambrough added a sixth-place finish in the triple jump with a best effort of 42-5.5.

The men's mile relay team also picked up a top-six finish, with the team of Viall, Bruskewitz, Enright and Wagoner winding up second in 3:20.95.

The Panthers return to Iowa next weekend, when they travel to Ames for the Iowa State Invitational on Thursday and Friday.
