Men's Track Finishes Third At Eastern Illinois

Viall wins 800m, anchors first-place mile relay team

MILWAUKEE - Nick Viall won the 800m and anchored the men's mile relay team that finished in a tie for first place to help lead the Panther men's track and field team to a third-place finish at the Eastern Illinois Quadrangular meet Saturday in Charleston, Ill.

Viall finished the 800m in an indoor best 1:55.72, and ran an unofficial split of 49.79 in the mile relay of Adam Hobler, Nick Bruskewitz, Elliot Enright and Viall as the Panthers finished dead even with Eastern Illinois with a time of 3:20.32. That time was just 1.23 seconds off the school record.

Bruskewitz also finished second in the 800m, finishing in 1:55.90, while Adam Swanson was fourth in 1:56.97. The Panthers also had three top-eight finishes in the 400m and the mile, as Adam Hobler was fourth in the 400m in 50.24, followed by Gabe Wagoner in fifth (51.98) and Billy McCarthy in sixth in 53.67. In the mile, Andy Kivioja was third in 4:32.00, with Bryan Hassemer in fourth in 4:37.82 and Jason Straka in fifth in 4:38.96. Eric Gresham and Steve Hermann finished seventh and eight in the 60m, with Gresham's time of 7.33 and Hermann's mark of 7.38.

Kyle Huebner and Sean Cludy also picked up wins for the Panthers on the day, as Huebner won the pole vault, clearing 14'7 1/4". Cludy won the triple jump with a best effort of 43'3 1/4". Scott Bambrough was third in the triple jump with a leap of 41'2 1/4". Huebner and Cludy also combined for two places in the high jump, with Huebner finishing second after clearing 6'2 3/4" and Cludy winding up sixth after jumping 5'8 3/4". Huebner was also fifth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.13.

 

 

In the long jump, Steven Capela was third with a jump of 20'9", followed by Nick Davis in fifth (20'3 1/2") and Bambrough in sixth after jumping 20'1/2".

The Panthers return to action next weekend, as they travel to Indianapolis on Saturday for the Smith Barney Invitational.
