LOOKING AT THE WEEK AHEAD:
The Ball State Invitational's formal name is the Second Annual Doug Coers Invitational, named after the late Doug Coers - a four-year swimmer at BSU from 1986-1989. Hitting the pool with the Panthers at the Lewellen Aquatics Center will be host Ball State, IUPUI, Valparaiso and Baldwin-Wallace.

Ball State is off to a 1-1 dual start, defeating Buffalo 136-101 Oct. 28 before falling 145-96 Nov. 12. IUPUI is 3-2 in dual meet action, defeating Centre 75-38 and Lindenwood 69-44 in their most recent action Nov. 12. Baldwin-Wallace is off to a fast start, running their record to 4-0 after an 80-61 win over Ohio Wesleyan Nov. 12 and a 134-57 victory over Wilmington Nov. 5. Valparaiso is struggling at 1-7, including their most recent loss, 141-78, by UWM this past weekend.

LAST YEAR:
Last season, Milwaukee placed second to host Ball State at the Doug Coers Invitational. The Panthers scored 700.33 points to the Cardinals' 1101.83. Wins by Michael Belting in the 500 free and Chase Gravengood in the 200 IM and 200 fly paved the way, while three relay teams also took second place to help Milwaukee's efforts.

LAST WEEK'S RECAP:
The men had a solid week, posting a record of 2-1 as they defeated South Dakota State, 132-92, and Valparaiso, 141-78, on Sunday at the Klotsche Center. The team dropped a 171-72 decision to North Dakota on Saturday.

Chase Gravengood won two events and Jeff Jasinowski swept the diving events to lead the way in UWM's sweep of Valpo and SDSU Sunday. Gravengood swam to wins in the 100 and 200 freestyle, while Jasinowski recorded season-highs on both boards. His 317.25 points on the one-meter and 308.63 on the three-meter earned him the wins, with his point total in the one-meter event qualifying him for NCAA zones. Gravengood led a group of UWM swimmers in the 100 free. Tyler Jefferson took second, Jeremy Seibel third and David Yugo after him to give the Panthers a 1-2-3-4 finish. Other winners on Saturday included Joe Vermeulen in the 1000 free and Matt Howard in the 100 back.

Jasinowski accomplished the same feat in the diving events on Saturday vs. North Dakota, while Gravengood earned second place finishes in both the 200 IM and 200 butterfly on the strength of season-best times.

ON TAP:
The men's team will have a week off before the team splits up at the start of December. The divers will head to the Notre Dame Diving Invitational while the swimmers compete at the Wheaton Invite.
