MILWAUKEE - Six members of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's and women's swimming & diving teams were named to the 2005-06 Winter Academic All-Horizon League Team, the league office announced today.

The league recognized the academic achievements of its members on Tuesday, as a total of 79 student-athletes from six sports were honored in balloting by the league's faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors. Wright State led the way with 12 members on the various teams, followed by Detroit (11) and then both UIC and UWM with 10 overall.

"It says a great deal about our student-athletes to have a solid representation on the Academic All-League Team," Milwaukee head coach Dave Clark said. "I am extremely pleased and proud of our team for their successes both in the pool and the classroom."

For the men, senior Tim Watt led the way, earning the academic honor for the third-straight season - one of just two athletes on the 17-member squad to pull off the feat. The team captain from this past season carries a 3.42 GPA in Civil Engineering.

Joining Watt was senior Jeff Jasinowski, junior Karl Winderl and sophomore Paul Lewis, all first-time honorees. Jasinowsi was a team captain and UWM's top-finisher in the diving events at the Horizon League Championships, placing seventh on the one-meter and fourth on the three-meter boards. He dove at NCAA Zone 'C' Regionals for second-straight season and placed first or second 19 times on the year. He is a Journalism/Mass Communications major with a 3.311 GPA.

Winderl, an Accounting major in school, had the highest GPA on the squad at 3.933. He placed 12th in the 1000 freestyle and 1650 freestyle at Horizon League Championships, setting career-best times in 500 and 1650 freestyles at the event.

Lewis improved all season-long as a sophomore, setting career-best times in the 200, 1000 and 1650 freestyles at the Horizon League Championships. He carries a 3.643 GPA as a Journalism major.

On the women's side, junior Lindsay Caldwell added to her season accolades by earning a spot on the All-League team for the second-straight season. She was named Swimmer of the Meet and Swimming/Diving Athlete of the Year at Horizon league Championships after claiming league titles in the 50 and 100 freestyles and a second in 100 breaststroke. She won 30 of 35 races on the season, including a nearly four-month span where she didn't lose, winning 26-straight. She was named league Swimmer of the Week twice and was featured in the Jan. 30 issue of Sports Illustrated in its "Faces in the Crowd". She is a Journalism/Mass Communications major with a 3.537 GPA.

Joining Caldwell on the prestigious list was sophomore Emma McKeith. After returning from injury that kept her out of the pool for over half of the season, McKeith placed fifth in the 1650 freestyle and eighth in the 500 freestyle at the Horizon League Championships. She is an Education major with a 3.933 GPA.
