Blake Kangas begins his first season as a volunteer assistant coach for the UW-Milwaukee baseball team. His responsibilities include working with the outfielders, serving as a base coach, helping with field prep and working at the UWM baseball camps, among other various duties. His coaching background includes serving as an assistant coach for the Rochester (Minn.) A's American Legion team since 2003 and as a Babe Ruth Baseball head coach from 2004 through 2006. He will also serve as the hitting coach for the Herndon Braves this upcoming summer in Haymarket, Virginia. Kangas was a two-year letterwinner as player at Milwaukee in the 2004 and 2005 seasons after transferring from MATC in Madison. He batted .304 as a senior, hitting two home runs and driving in 14 runs and also pitched for the Panthers. That followed an all-conference career at MATC, where he batted .313 with 10 home runs and 70 runs batted in over two seasons. Kangas is originally from Rochester, Minn., and comes from a family with ties to athletics. His dad was the National High School Coach of the Year in 2002 and has won American Legion World Series and Minnesota High School State Championship titles. His brother, Alex, is a freshman goalie for the University of Minnesota hockey team. |
