UWM Track Adds Middle-Distance Specialist
Enright signs letter of intent to run for Milwaukee
April 22, 2002 MILWAUKEE - Elliot Enright, a middle distance runner from Madison, Wis., has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his career at UWM. Enright, who captured the Track and Field Association 800m Indoor title in March, will immediately add more depth to the Panther middle distance program. "He's arguably the best 800m runner in the state," head coach Pete Corfeld said. "We're very excited he chose to continue his academic and athletic career with us." Enright led his team, Madison LaFollette, to the Track and Field Association Team Championship earlier this month with his title in the 800m in a time of 1:54.87. He also anchored the 4x400m relay team to victory with a time of 3:30.06, with Enright running near a 50-second split time. His best 800m time of 1:54.70 indoors ranks him 27th all-time in Wisconsin high school history in the event. The 27th-place ranking in state history places him as the highest-ranked prep runner in the 800m to attend UWM. Others on the list include Olympian Gabe Jennings in fourth, current Panther Nick Viall in 31st and current UWM 800m record holder Cory Peterson in 38th. He is also one of three current high school athletes in the top 50. "We're very happy that he's decided to help continue the tradition of great middle distance runners at UWM," Corfeld said. "I forsee him being a future NCAA Qualifier. He should step right in and compete and help out our 4x800m team. I'm really excited to be able to coach him." UWM is currently in the midst of an outdoor season that has seen the school's 4x800m relay record fall, a record formerly held by four of the best middle distance runners the school has produced. |
