Several Panthers Win At Eastern Illinois Invite
Naef tops meet with Friday's performance in the heptathlon.

MILWAUKEE -- The UWM men's and women's track and field teams had a great couple of days at the Eastern Illinois Invite in Charleston, Ill., over the weekend. Sophomore Kristy Naef (Butler, Wis.) won the heptathlon on Friday while several other Panthers finished ahead in their events on Saturday. Naef won the two-day event with 4889 points, crushing the previous school record by over 500 points. She recorded personal records in the 100m hurdle (14.52) and in the 200m (25.25) on Thursday before finishing strong on Friday in the long jump (18-7), javelin (105-2), and 800m-run (2:30.84). Senior Nicole Wee (Soldiers Grove, Wis.) had a big day for UWM on Saturday, winning the 100m-dash while recording her best-ever time. The senior sprinter ran 12:09 to grab the first-place finish. Junior Jon Manke (Green Bay, Wis.) won the shot put, recording 53-7 3/4 to level the competition. Sophomore Ken Hunt (Milwaukee, Wis.) also won his event, jumping 47-2 1/2 to win the triple jump, followed in second by senior Jon Havel (Algoma, Wis.) with a personal record of 45-5 3/4. Also finishing in second were senior Aaron Nodolf (Monroe, Wis.) in the 1500m-run (4:03.03) and freshman Nick Davis (Racine, Wis.) in the high jump (6-4). Sophomore Lynda Thiel (DePere, Wis.) broke the school record in the pole vault while also recording a personal record. She vaulted 10-0 to give her eighth place in the event. ALSO FINISHING... ...Senior Andrea Thibaudeau (Green Bay, Wis.) took fifth in the long jump (17-11 3/4), followed by senior Kenya Moore (Milwaukee, Wis.) with 17-11 1/2. Thibaudeau also took fifth in the 100m hurdles (15.36), but placed third in the 400m hurdles (1:06.11). Junior Pat Harrington (West Allis, Wis.) finished fourth in the 5000m-run in 15:47.10, while sophomore Jeremy Dunn (Lancaster, Wis.) took seventh in the 800m-dash in 1:56.89. UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS... ...UWM will not compete at the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn., on April 13-14 as previously scheduled. Instead, a handful of Panthers will travel to the Western Illinois Meet on Saturday, April 14th. After their strong performances in the heptathlon at Eastern Illinois, Naef and sophomore Stephanie Kenesie (Bristol, Wis.) will compete in the same event at the Kansas Relays on April 18-19. |
