DAYTON, Ohio - Green Bay (6-19, 4-12) decided not to wait and test the waters in another five-game match, instead upending Wright State (13-17, 9-7) in four games Saturday afternoon in Dayton, Ohio. The 21-30, 30-16, 30-24, 30-25 victory in the regular season finale gave the Phoenix a two-game season sweep over the third-place Raiders.

Heading into today's match, Green Bay had suffered two straight heartbreaking five-game losses. The first came at the hands of first-place Milwaukee a week ago and the second occurred Friday night at Butler in a duel in which Green Bay had five match points.

Against Wright State, neither of the first two games was hotly contested, as there were no lead changes in either one. WSU opened up with a 30-21 victory, but Green Bay recovered with an impressive 30-16 triumph in game two. It matched the most lopsided win of the season for the Phoenix, who also had a 30-16 victory over Youngstown State.

In game three, the Raiders jumped out to a 13-8 advantage before the Phoenix offense started clicking. By picking up seven of the next nine points, Green Bay knotted the score 15-15 at the midpoint of the game. Nikki Hintze (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) led the charge, as she had four kills, one ace and a block to give the Phoenix six of those points.

Green Bay took its first lead of the pivotal third game at 19-18 and never trailed the rest of the way. Rochelle Meulemans (Kaukauna, Wis.) polished off the Raiders in game three with back-to-back service aces.

Clinging to a 26-25 lead in the fourth game, Green Bay put an end to the intrigue with four consecutive points, the final two courtesy of Raider hitting errors.

Holly Visser (Waupun, Wis.) pounded out a career-high-tying 20 kills for the second straight night, while hitting a stout .415 on the afternoon. Hintze (12 kills, 13 digs) and Betty Slinger (Faribault, Minn.), who had 52 assists and 10 digs, each tallied double-doubles. Abby Bergsma (Appleton, Wis.) chipped in with 11 kills, four aces and four blocks.

For the match, the Phoenix hit .305, the team's third-best percentage of the season, compared to Wright State's .222. Green Bay swept Wright State 3-0 in the earlier meeting.

Green Bay, seeded ninth, will begin Horizon League Championships play Thursday night against eighth-seeded Loyola at the Klotsche Center in Milwaukee, Wis. The match, which begins at 6 p.m. (CT) will be videostreamed on horizonleaguenetwork.tv. The winner will play top-seeded Milwaukee Friday at 7:30 p.m.
