CLEVELAND -
Junior setter Betty Slinger notched her nation-leading seventh triple-double but it still wasn't enough as the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay volleyball team saw its three-match winning streak come to an end with a 30-23, 30-20, 31-29 loss at Cleveland State Saturday afternoon.
Slinger, the reigning Horizon League offensive player of the week, followed up her triple-double in a win over Youngstown State Friday night with another one against the Vikings, posting 12 kills, 23 assists and 12 digs. Megan Elfering had a match-high 19 digs for the Phoenix.
UW-Green Bay (10-11, 4-5 Horizon League) was limited to a .093 hitting percentage as a team after committing 30 hitting errors in the match. The Vikings (15-6, 5-4) hit .179 as a team, though no CSU players reached double-figures in kills. Danielle Siefker and Jenni Ramminger posted nine kills apiece for the hosts.
After Cleveland State recorded comfortable wins in the first two games, the Phoenix attempted to rally in the third game to continue the match. UW-Green Bay was seemingly in control leading 20-12, but the Vikings were able to come all the way back. The Phoenix led 29-28, but three straight hitting errors gave CSU the game and the match.
The Phoenix returns to action Tuesday when it steps outside of league play as it travels to Marquette.
