GREEN BAY, Wis. - For the fifth straight match, Green Bay (5-16, 3-9) jumped out with a game one victory, but for the fourth time over that period, the Phoenix volleyball team saw an opponent came back to steal the victory. Saturday's foe, Cleveland State, escaped Green Bay with a 3-1 win (29-31, 30-27, 30-18, 30-23) in the final match ever played at the Phoenix Sports Center.

Cleveland State (17-6, 10-2) has now won 10 of its last 11 matches to remain in second place in the Horizon League. Green Bay was bidding for its first two-game winning string in league play.

The first two games were classic battles, as they featured 34 ties and 19 lead changes. The ultimate moment in the opening game came with Green Bay down 26-25. The longest, wildest point of the match was won by the Phoenix on a Carlie Willison (Greenfield, Wis.) kill. Green Bay stayed even or had the lead the rest of that game and capped it off on a smash from Holly Visser (Waupun, Wis.).

The second game turned at nearly the same spot, as the Phoenix and Vikings were tied at 27-27 following a kill by Green Bay's Nikki Hintze (Menomonee Falls, Wis.). However, Cleveland State ran off three straight points, the last two off Green Bay attack errors, to close the game and take the momentum.

The Phoenix struggled offensively in the final two games, managing just a .046 attack percentage. Cleveland State was dominant in game three, hitting .519.

Betty Slinger (Faribault, Minn.) added another double-double to her resume, as she totaled 44 assists and 12 digs. Abby Bergsma (Appleton, Wis.) led the team with 14 kills off a .312 attack percentage.

Green Bay has four regular season matches left, three of which are on the road. Green Bay's next home contest is Friday, Nov. 2 against Milwaukee. It will be played at the brand-new Kress Center at 7 p.m.
