Oct. 30, 2007
Horizon League release in PDF format INDIANAPOLIS - A pair of Green Bay women's soccer midfielders earned Horizon League accolades Tuesday, as senior Lotte Rasmussen (Samsoe, Denmark) and freshman Laura Hayward (Sheboygan, Wis.) both were named second team all-Horizon League performers. Hayward also gained all-newcomer team honors, while fellow freshman Chelsea Lyons (Coon Rapids, Minn.) also was named to the all-newcomer squad. Rasmussen led the Phoenix in scoring during the regular season, posting four goals for eight points. Against Youngstown State Oct. 5, Rasmussen had a pair of goals in Green Bay's 4-2 win over the league foe, and followed up with a two-goal effort against Wright State Oct. 19. Hayward stepped into a starting role immediately for Green Bay, as she has started all 17 matches this season. Hayward tallied an assist in Green Bay's win over Youngstown State Oct. 5. Lyons showed her versatility in her first season, seeing time both as a defender and forward during Horizon League play. Lyons scored the team's game-winning goal in overtime against Cleveland State Sept. 30 and had two assists against Youngstown State Oct. 5. She also added a goal against Butler Oct. 12, as she is tied for second on the team in scoring this fall. Loyola's Cynthia Morote-Ariza was named the league's Player of the Year in just her second season with the Ramblers, while Wright State's Amber Kasmer was selected as the Newcomer of the Year. Milwaukee coach Michael Moynihan was tabbed as the league's Coach of the Year for the fifth time. Green Bay (2-15-0), the No. 7 seed in the 2007 Horizon League championship, will take on No. 2 seed Loyola Saturday at 4 p.m. in the tournament's first round. |
