Women's Soccer Defeated By Weber State 4-2 At Nevada Invitational

Sept. 3, 2006

RENO, Nev. - The UW-Green Bay women's soccer team (1-2-0) managed to match Weber State University in shots on goal Sunday afternoon, but the Wildcats were able to find the gaps in the Phoenix defense as UWGB lost its final contest of the Nevada Invitational 4-2. The Phoenix got goals from juniors Lotte Rasmussen and Amanda Brown in the contest, as both struck the back of the net in the second half.

Weber State (2-2-0) had 11 shots in the first half compared to UW-Green Bay's three, including a 5-2 lead in shots on goal. The result was a 2-0 scoreline at the half after Weber State notched scores in the 14th and 43rd minutes.

The Wildcats improved their lead to 3-0 early in the second half before the Phoenix broke through. Rasmussen blasted home a 25-yard free kick in the 73rd minute to cut the deficit to 3-1.

But just over two minutes later Weber State converted again, taking advantage of a Phoenix miscue to again take a three-goal lead.

UW-Green Bay had the slight offensive advantage statistically in the second half, out-firing Weber State 10-9, but the Phoenix could only manage one more score on Brown's goal in the 85th minute.

Phoenix goalkeepers Brooke Wikgren and Charla Buxbaum combined for four saves in the loss, while Weber State's Rebecca Ritchie made six saves.

UW-Green Bay returns to home this week to host Northern Illinois Friday, Sept. 8 for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Santaga Stadium. It is the first of five straight home dates for the Phoenix.
