The Green Bay women's soccer team (0-1) lost its season-opening match Friday afternoon as the Phoenix fell to Illinois State 2-0.
Redbirds' junior Mel Routledge blasted 11 shots in the contest, resulting in a pair of goals for the home team. Routledge got Illinois State on the board in the 30th minute and added an insurance strike midway through the second half.
Illinois State avenged its season-opening setback to Green Bay last year, as the Phoenix defeated the Redbirds 1-0 in overtime in Green Bay.
Green Bay tallied just one shot on goal from freshman Chelsea Lyons.
Green Bay goalkeeper Brooke Wikgren made four saves while ISU's Katie Grill-Donovan did not have to make a save for the shutout.
Next up for Green Bay is its Sunday matchup with Western Illinois at 3 p.m. in Macomb, Ill.
