Unbeaten in its last six outings, the Green Bay men's soccer team (5-2-2) will host regional powerhouse Ohio State Saturday at 7 p.m. at Santaga Stadium. Both teams enter the contest ranked among the top 10 in the NSCAA Great Lakes Region; Ohio State is ranked No. 4, while Green Bay moved into No. 10 earlier this week.
Geen Bay Athletics is featuring reduced ticket prices for Saturday's match with the Buckeyes. Adult tickets will be $4 while children can get in for $2. UW-Green Bay students get in for free with a student ID.
In the all-time series with Ohio State, the teams have split four matchups for a 2-2-0 record. Just once previous has Ohio State played in Green Bay, which was a 6-0 win for the Phoenix during the 1995 season. Last year, Green Bay up-ended the Buckeyes 2-1 in Columbus.
Scouting Green Bay: Junior goalkeeper Adam Stikl (Milwaukee, Wis.) made two saves against Valparaiso Wednesday for his third solo shutout of the year and the fourth for Green Bay this season. With 90 minutes of scoreless soccer, Stikl's shutout streak extended to over 330 minutes with the win.
Freshman JC Banks (Milwaukee, Wis.) tallied a pair of goals just 84 seconds apart in Green Bay's win over Western Michigan Sept. 23 and followed up with the game-winning goal against Valparaiso Wednesday. Banks now is Green Bay's leader with four goals on the season.
Senior midfielder Dan O'Brien (Shoreview, Minn.) leads Green Bay with five assists this year, which ranks 18th in the NCAA as of Sept. 25. Four of his assists this season have been on match-winning goals.
Scouting the Opponents: Ohio State (5-2-2) is winless in its last two outings after a 4-0 loss to No. 3 Northwestern Sept. 23 and a 1-1 draw at Akron Wednesday. Xavier Balc, who scored Ohio State's goal against Green Bay last season, leads the Buckeyes offensively with two goals and six assists for 10 points.
