GREEN BAY, Wis. - Dan O'Brien, a senior midfielder on the Green Bay men's soccer team, was named the Horizon League Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 16, the league office announced Monday. It is the first weekly honor for O'Brien.

A 2006 second-team all-league performer, O'Brien led Green Bay to a pair of home wins as the Phoenix gathered the championship of the Green Bay Nike Soccer Classic Sept. 15-16. O'Brien had a goal and an assist in each contest, with both of his assists coming on Green Bay's game-winning goals. For his efforts in the two games, O'Brien was named the tournament's most valuable player.

On the year, O'Brien, a native of Shoreview, Minn., leads Green Bay and is fourth in the Horizon League in scoring with seven points on two goals and three assists.

Green Bay (3-2-1) returns to action Thursday when it hosts instate rival Wisconsin at 7:30 p.m. at Santaga Stadium. The Phoenix will wrap up its four-game homestand Sunday against Western Michigan at noon.
