LEBANON, Ohio -
The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay men's golf team could not close its gap against Detroit Tuesday in the final round of the 2007 Horizon League Championship, as the Phoenix finished second out of seven teams, falling 16 strokes of Detroit's pace. The team's second-place finish is the best since a runner-up finish in 2001.
After closing to within five strokes at one point, the Phoenix could not get any closer as Detroit pulled away. Medalist David Byrne of Detroit was the only golfer to shoot par for the course, finishing three strokes in front of second-place Jake Scott of Cleveland State.
Travis Meyer moved up to a tie for fourth Tuesday to lead the Phoenix, while Aaron Pearson, who struggled during Monday's action, had a team-best two-over 74 on Tuesday.
Garrett Gosh and Eric Mabee both tied for ninth overall with scores of 229 after shooting 80 and 83, respectively, on Tuesday.
Detroit will represent the Horizon League at the NCAA Championships.
