PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. - The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay men's and women's cross country teams opened their 2006 season Saturday afternoon by competing in the UIC Home Opener. The invitational was scored in multi-team dual meet format with the Phoenix men posting wins against two of the other five schools, while the UW-Green Bay women picked up one victory.

The Green Bay men defeated Chicago State 15-50 and St. Xavier 24-31 while falling to UIC 20-36, Loyola 22-33 and DePaul 19-44. The Phoenix were able to knock off Chicago State 15-50, but were defeated by UIC 17-46, Loyola 15-50, DePaul 19-36 and St. Xavier 19-39.

Senior Nathanael Brown was the top UW-Green Bay finisher on the men's side, completing the 4.1-mile course seventh in a time of 21:15. The Phoenix also had three other individuals place in the top 25 as Brian Finnel was 21st (22:09), Abraham Clark was 23rd (22:11) and Ryan Hartwig was 24th (22:15).

On the women's side, senior Natalie McPeak was the first Phoenix runner to finish the 2.0-mile course in 12:18, good for 18th place. Other top UW-Green Bay finishers included Jolene Sell in 27th place (13:01) and Emily Farrell in 28th (13:03).

Both Phoenix teams will return to action next Friday when they compete at the Crusader Invitational hosted by Valparaiso University.
