GREEN BAY, Wis. - University of Wisconsin-Green Bay senior swimmer Dan Lindstrom has been named the Horizon League Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week the league office announced Wednesday. It is the first such honor for Lindstrom, joining two-time recipient Mike Schachtner of the men's basketball team as UW-Green Bay's male recipients this season.

A native of Vulcan, Mich., Lindstrom helped lead the Phoenix men's swimming and diving to a pair of duel meet wins last weekend. He won the 100 breaststroke (2:12.62) and finished third in the 200 individual medley (2:02.18) in a 130-113 victory at UIC Saturday. The following day in a 144-80 win at Butler, Lindstrom placed first in the 200 backstroke (2:05.92) and runner-up by just eight hundredths of a second to teammate Kyle Eberle in the 400 individual medley (4:23.75).

Lindstrom is a two-time member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll and was named to Academic All-Horizon League last season. He carries a 3.50 grade point average while majoring in urban and regional studies.

The UW-Green Bay men's swimming and diving team is currently 7-3 overall in duel meets this season, including a 2-2 mark against Horizon League foes. The Phoenix will compete at UW-Milwaukee's Bill Ritter Invitational this Friday and Saturday.

The Horizon League instituted the Scholar-Athlete of the Week awards for this academic year as a way to recognize outstanding academic and athletic achievement by its student-athletes. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better (on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution and passed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours, and perform well during the week's competition. Winners are selected by a group of League faculty athletic representatives, from nominations provided by sports information directors.
