University of Wisconsin-Green Bay sophomore Danielle DeGrand has been named the Horizon League Female Swimmer of the Week for the third time this season the league office announced Tuesday. She previously earned the award Oct. 24 and Nov. 7 as well as once during her freshman campaign.
DeGrand, a Green Bay native, posted victories in all six events she competed in last weekend, helping lead the Phoenix to a pair of road Horizon League duel meet wins. In a 168-75 triumph over UIC Saturday, DeGrand won the 200 individual medley (2:09.37) and the 200 backstroke (2:10.02) and also swam a leg on the victorious 400 freestyle re¬lay (3:34.63). The following day in UW-Green Bay's 141-93 victory at Butler, she captured the 200 free (1:54.93) and the 400 IM (4:35.56) titles and was a member of the first-place 200 medley relay squad (1:51.63).
The versatile DeGrand currently holds the Horizon League's top times in four different events this season: 500 freestyle (5:04.46), 100 back (59.56), 200 back (2:06.62) and the 400 IM (4:29.50).
The UW-Green Bay women have an overall duel meet record of 9-1 this season including a 4-0 mark against Horizon League foes. The Phoenix returns to action this Friday and Saturday when it competes at UW-Milwaukee's Bill Ritter Invitational.
