GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay Athletics Department is set for a historic weekend Friday, Nov. 2 and Saturday, Nov. 3, as the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay unveils the brand-new, $33 million Kress Events Center. Events celebrating the grand opening include home games for the volleyball and women's basketball teams, a men's basketball practice open to the public and a public open house.

The special events will celebrate the major addition to student life and NCAA Division I athletics at UW-Green Bay as well as the student/community/state partnership that made it possible.

"The Kress Events Center is a spectacular addition to the campus landscape," Chancellor Bruce Shepard said. "It will provide marvelous opportunities for our student body, our Athletics program and the region we are here to serve. On behalf of Green Bay's University of Wisconsin, I want to express my gratitude to our students, alumni, community friends and elected officials who made this great achievement possible. It will be an enduring example of what we can accomplish when we all work together."

The grand opening events to be held include:
• A Friday, Nov. 2 home match for the Green Bay Phoenix volleyball team, the first on the team's new home floor. The contest with in-state rival Milwaukee starts at 7 p.m.
• An open men's basketball practice from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 on the Kress Events Center main court.
• A public open house and grand opening Saturday, Nov. 3. The open house, from noon to 1:45 p.m., will feature tours, food and a family kids' zone that includes inflatables and face painting. The brand-new indoor turf facility will also be open so that kids can hit balls in the batting cage, toss the football around and score soccer goals with Green Bay student-athletes.
• The Saturday, Nov. 3 home opener for the Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball team. Tip-off time for the exhibition game with Northern Michigan is 3 p.m.
