May 9- The Pepperdine Waves are in first place at the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships West Regional held at Stanford Golf Course. The Waves have a 7-stroke lead over UCLA as they stand alone at the top of the leaderboard at +1. San Francisco is currently tied for 12th at +27.
Sarah Walter, Portland's first-ever NCAA women's golf participant, is tied for ninth after the first round of play.
Walter's 1-over 73 is among 15 players bunched within five strokes of the leader, Katherine Hull of Pepperdine (69).
