Sept. 25-The Saint Marys womens soccer team (3-4-1) destroyed the San Jose State Spartans (2-5-1), 3-0, on Tuesday, September 24, on Garaventa Field. Sarah Burgess tallied one goal and one assist in the game.
The Gaels began the scoring route at the 17:10 minute mark when Burgess aimed a header to the left corner thanks to a cross by teammate Sarah Churchill. Lucianne Crenshaw would help the Gaels tally their second goal of the half when she found an opening in the right corner of the Spartans goal. Churchill and Burgess earned the double-assist.
The Gaels would add one more score in the second half when Shauna Rech connected on a free kick at the 59:33 minute mark. The Gaels outshot the Spartans 23-5 in the game, while Sarah Takekawa had a game-high nine shots.
SMCs Alyson Berger, Ruth Montgomery and Amaya Zabala shared goalkeeping duties and all finished with one save in the shutout. San Jose States Erin Lavey tallied nine saves.
