WCC Player of the Week: Santa Clara's Brittany Klein Named WCC Player of the Week
Santa Clara senior midfielder Brittany Klein is this week's WCC Player of the Week after helping the Broncos to a 1-0-1 record, including a big 7-1 win over No. 2 Notre Dame. Klein was instrumental in the Broncos win over the Fighting Irish as she netted two goals and provided an assist on Meagan Snell's second goal of the night, which put the Broncos up 4-1 in the second half. For her efforts, Klein was named to the Santa Clara adidas Classic all-tournament team. She currently leads the team with seven total points on three goals and one assist.

WCC Team Notes

Gonzaga Bulldogs (2-2-0 / 0-0-0 WCC)
- Gonzaga posted a 1-1-0 record over the weekend versus regional rivals Washington State and Eastern Washington, falling to the Cougars, 2-1, in double-overtime before bouncing back to take a 2-0 decision over the Eagles.

- Senior Lauren Zuckerman scored her first career collegiate goal in the Bulldogs' win over Eastern Washington. Zuckerman primarily played as a defender during her first three years at Gonzaga, earning All-WCC honors as a sophomore and junior.

- GU takes on Vanderbilt (9/14) and UAB (9/16) at the Vanderbilt Tournament this weekend.

Loyola Marymount (0-3-1 / 0-0-0 WCC)
- The Lions tied Indiana, 0-0, before falling to Maryland 3-0 at the Hoosier Classic.

- Senior goalkeeper Joslyn Slovek recorded her first shutout of the season and the 19th of her career as LMU battled Indiana to a 0-0 draw.

- Slovek, the 2006 WCC Defensive Player of the Year, made four saves versus Indiana and seven against Maryland. She and needs just 72 more saves to tie the school's all-time record of 286 set by Celeste Adams.

- The Lions' tie with the Hoosiers was their second double-overtime game of the season. LMU competed in seven such contests last season.

- The Lions host Lamar (9/14) and Michigan (9/16) in the Four Points Sheraton Classic.

Pepperdine Waves (0-3-1 / 0-0-0 WCC)
- The Waves season-opening struggles continued, dropping a pair of 1-0 decisions at Ohio State and Dayton.

- Led by junior goalkeeper Kayla Stolte, the Waves defense has continued to play well in the early going, allowing only more than one goal on one occasion.

- Stolte collected seven saves versus Ohio State and four against Dayton. The Santee, CA native is tied for second in the WCC in saves with 18 and tied for second in shutouts with one.

- Amanda Rupp, McKenzie Hill, and Courtney Price lead the Waves in shots with five, while Samantha Hire and Ashley Copp ranked second with four shots.

- After playing their first four games of the season on the road, the Waves get to go home and begin a seven-game homestand as they host UNLV (9/14) and Denver (9/16).

Portland Pilots (3-1-0 / 0-0-0 WCC)
- UP posted wins over Oregon State (4-1) and Cal State Fullerton (2-1), before suffering a 1-0 setback versus Purdue for its first loss of the season.

- Seniors Rachael Rapinoe and Natalie Budge tallied two goals each in the Pilots' win over Oregon State. Rapinoe, a defender her first two and half years on The Bluff, has a remarkable 13 goals and seven assists in just 20 games played as a forward, while Budge's two goals give her 28 for her career, tying for 10th all-time in program history. Her 79 career points (28g, 23a) places her ninth on the all-time scoring list

- Rachael's sister Megan Rapinoe, an All-American, made her 2007 debut over the weekend, playing 15 minutes off the bench versus the Titans before logging 40 minutes against the Boilermakers. Megan tore her ACL 11 games into the 2006 season.

- The Pilots host Kansas (9/14) and Yale (9/16) in the Nike Portland Invitational.

Saint Mary's Gaels (1-0-1 / 0-0-0 WCC)
- The Gaels played Vermont to a 1-1 draw, before suffering a 2-1 setback versus Cal State Bakersfield in the Saint Mary's Classic.

- The Gaels pressured the Vermont and the Cal State Bakersfield defenses with a combined 47 shots, including 29 of them on goal. On the season, Saint Mary's has out shot its opponents, 75-54.

- Sophomore forward Allie Weiner found the back of the net in both matches over the weekend to give her a team-leading three strikes. Weiner, who enters the weekend leading the WCC in points with nine (3g, 3a), has already tied her freshman goal scoring mark and has surpassed her point total from the 2006 campaign (8).

- Saint Mary's takes on UAB (9/14) and Vanderbilt (9/16) at the Vanderbilt Tournament this week.

San Diego Toreros (2-1-1 / 0-0-0 WCC)
- The Toreros posted a 1-1-0 record on their trip to the midwest, blanking Dayton, 1-0, before suffering their first loss of the season in a 2-0 setback to Ohio State.

- Senior Leigh Ann Robinson's goal in the 15th minute lifted San Diego over Dayton. Robinson, a 2006 All-WCC first team member, now is tied for the team lead in points with junior Amy Epsten with three (1g, 1a).

- Junior goalkeeper Brittany Cameron collected seven saves in the Toreros' win over the Flyers for her second shutout of the season. Cameron has enjoyed a strong start to the season, leading the WCC in saves (19), shutouts (2), and goals against average (0.71).

- San Diego returns to Torero Stadium take on UCLA (9/14) and Cal Poly (9/16) this weekend.

San Francisco Dons (0-1-2 / 0-0-0 WCC)
- San Francisco battled Cal State Northridge to a scoreless draw, before falling to UCLA, 3-0.

- Junior goalkeeper Katie Hodgson recorded two saves versus the Matadors for her first shutout of the season.

- Sunday's match versus the Bruins marked the first time Head Coach Mark Carr has faced UCLA where he served as assistant coach from 2003-2006. The Dons are now 0-6-0 against the Bruins all-time.

- Senior forward Fiona O'Sullivan leads the Dons with seven shots on the season.

- San Francisco continues its road trip as the Dons travel to UC Davis (9/14) and to Nevada (9/16) this weekend.

Santa Clara Broncos (2-0-1 / 0-0-0 WCC)
- Santa Clara enjoyed a solid weekend, defeating No. 2 Notre Dame 7-1, before playing Virginia to a 0-0 tie.

- Sophomore Kiki Bosio and seniors Meagan Snell and Brittany Klein scored a pair of goals each to lead No. 3 Santa Clara over Notre Dame. The seven goals scored by Santa Clara marked the most goals Notre Dame has allowed of its opponent since the 1989 season, as well as the Broncos largest victory over the Irish since a 4-0 sweep in 2002.

- Junior Meagan McCray tallied seven saves versus Notre Dame and four versus Virginia for her first shutout of the season.

- Bosio, Snell, and Klein were named to the SCU adidas Classic all-tournament team.

- SCU faces Rutgers (9/14) and Missouri (9/16) in the Stanford Tournament this week.
