Host University of Washington captured the men's race in 15:16.00, with Stanford University second in 15:46.23, Oregon State University third in 15:55.66 and the Bulldogs fourth in 16:04.87.

The U.S. Women's National Team, minus three of its members it competed with this summer, covered the 2.8 mile course in a time of 16 minutes, 54:33 seconds. Washington coxswain Mary Whipple, Heidi Hurn and Anna Mickelson, who were a part of the national team crew that finished fourth at the 2001 World Championships in August, helped lead the Husky varsity eight to a second place showing with an elapsed time of 17:06.39.

Pac-10 competitor Stanford was third at 17:10.89, followed by the University of Pennsylvania (17:29.99), Oregon State (17:32.68), the University of Texas (17:45.69), Washington State University (17:57.30) and Gonzaga (18:05.48) in the 11-boat field.

Gonzaga's men's JV eight finished fifth in 16:54.87, the Washington "A" boat winning in 15:32.56. The Bulldogs women's JV eight finished eighth in 19:08.27 in a race won by the UW women in 17:36.93.

The 2.8 mile course started at the north end of Lake Union, continuing through Portage Bay and the Montlake Cut into Union Bay. A wide 180 turn points boats toward the finish line near Washington's Conibear Shellhouse.
