WCC Women's Basketball Weekly Notes - 12/27

WCC Player of the Week Dominique Carter led USF to a pair of victories last week, averaging 24.0 points per game as the Dons stretched their winning streak to six straight games. The senior paced USF to a 95-86 win over Eastern Washington, scoring a team-high 23 points on 8-for-12 shooting, and pulling down seven boards. In an 81-72 victory over UC Davis, Carter dropped in 25 points and grabbed five rebounds, while shooting 10-for-13 from the floor. For the week, Carter shot a blistering .720 (18-for-25) from the field, and shot an equally impressive .750 (6-for-8) from beyond the arc. Upcoming Games

WCC Ranked 11th In The RPI WCC Teams Continue Strong Start WCC Team Notes
Gonzaga Bulldogs (7-5 / 0-0 WCC) - Janelle Bekkering recorded her first career double-double on Friday, as the redshirt freshman scored 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in the win over the Bobcats. - Courtney Vandersloot continued her impressive freshman campaign, scoring 14 points and dishing out a game-high six assists against Montana State. Vandersloot enters the week ranked second in the conference with 61 assists (5.1 apg) on the season. - Gonzaga leads the conference in scoring, averaging a league-high 75.6 points per game. - The Zags return to action at home this week, as GU hosts Eastern Washington (12/29) before traveling to Utah Valley State (12/31).
Loyola Marymount Lions (7-6 / 0-0 WCC) - Kavita Goss dropped in a career-high 17 points, and also set a career-best with four assists in Thursday's loss to Georgetown. - The Lions drained nine three-pointers in the loss to the Hoyas, the sixth-highest single-game total in program history. Goss led the way with five treys, while Lisa Helmers hit three shots from beyond the arc en route to an 11-point performance. - Loyola Marymount returns home for the Hilton LAX Holiday Tournament at Gersten Pavilion this weekend. The Lions open the tournament against Cal State Bakersfield (12/28) before taking on either Arkansas-Little Rock or Kansas State (12/29).
Pepperdine Waves (5-4 / 0-0 WCC) - Miranda Ayim led the Waves with a game-high 21 points, and pulled down seven rebounds against the Gauchos. Ayim shot 8-for-11 (.727) from the field, and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe in the loss. - The Waves lead the WCC with an outstanding .767 (115-for-150) free throw shooting percentage. Ayim is the team's top free throw shooter, as the sophomore is currently shooting at an .833 (30-for-36) clip from the charity stripe. - Pepperdine will face three ranked opponents on a 10-day road trip that begins this weekend. The stretch opens with contests at Coppin State (12/28) and No. 20 ranked George Washington (12/30), before the Waves travel to face to No. 6 Rutgers (1/2) and No. 25 Colorado (1/4).
Portland Pilots (8-5 / 0-0 WCC) - Laiken Dollente scored a team-high 21 points, and pitched in with seven rebounds and four assists in the win over Colorado State. The sophomore, who leads the conference with an .873 (62-for-71) free throw percentage, is currently leading the Pilots with 15.3 points per contest. - Karlie Burris and Rachel Warren missed the game against Southern Utah due to illness, but returned to score 12 and 13 points, respectively, in the win over Colorado State. Burris added four assists and Warren pitched in with five rebounds in the victory. - The Pilots travel to Northern California to take on Pacific (12/28) and Sacramento State (12/30) this weekend.
Saint Mary's Gaels (6-8 / 0-0 WCC) - The Gaels sunk 12 three-pointers against UC Davis to set a single-game conference-high for the season. Jontelle Smith drained a career-high seven three pointers in the loss, and enters the week with a conference-leading 40 treys on the season. - Louella Tomlinson recorded her first double-double of the season in Saturday's loss to Utah State, as the freshman set career-highs with 26 points and 13 rebounds against the Aggies. Tomlinson is averaging 12.6 points per game to rank second on the team. - The Gaels return home for non-conference contests against Cal State Fullerton (12/29) and Northern Colorado (12/30) this weekend.
San Diego Toreros (7-4 / 0-0 WCC) - Kiva Herman was one of three Toreros in double-figures against the Titans, scoring 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the field. Herman is currently averaging 12.9 points per game to rank second on the team. - Amanda Rego notched her second double-double of the season, scoring 11 points and dishing out 11 assists in Friday's win. Rego has collected a conference-leading 90 assists through 11 games this season, and is averaging 8.2 assists per contest. - San Diego returns to the Jenny Craig Pavilion for the Maggie Dixon Surf N Slam Classic this weekend. The Toreros will face Appalachian State (12/28) before meeting either No. 12 ranked DePaul or No. 19 ranked Texas (12/30).
San Francisco Dons (9-4 / 0-0 WCC) - Dominique Carter was nearly unstoppable last week, shooting .720 (18-for-25) from the floor and averaging 24 points through two games. Carter also shot .750 (6-for-8) from beyond the arc, and enters the week shooting a WCC-best .575 (23-for-40) from three-point range. - Nykia Peace enjoyed a pair of solid games, scoring 16 points in the win over Eastern Washington before notching her first double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds in the win over UC Davis. - The Dons travel to Nevada (12/30) for their lone game this week before returning home to face No. 21 ranked Wyoming (1/3).
Santa Clara Broncos (8-3 / 0-0 WCC) - Jen Gottschalk was one of three Broncos in double-figures on Friday, as the senior scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to record her second double-double of the season. Gottschalk also collected three steals in the win, giving her a team-high 25 swipes on the year. - Sara Majors notched her first career double-double against the Spartans, scoring 13 points and grabbing a career-high 14 rebounds. Majors, who also dished out four assists in the win over SJSU, enters the week ranked second on the team in both rebounds (5.3 rpg) and assists (3.4 apg). - The Broncos continue a season-high five-game home stand this week, welcoming Northern Arizona (12/29) and Cal State Fullerton (12/31) to the Leavey Center.
