The Pepperdine University women's tennis team (1-0) opened its 004 season on Monday afternoon with a 7-0 shutout of the Cal Poly Mustangs (1-1) at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. The Waves swept the doubles point and didn't drop a set in singles en route to the victory. lt;pgt; lt;Pgt;13; Sophomore Natalie Braverman stepped into the No. 1 spot in the singles lineup and posted a 7-6 (3), 7-, win over Samantha Waller to lead the Waves, while senior Charlotte Vernaz, at the No. slot, upended Chelsy Thompson 3-6, 7-6 (3), 1-0 (10-8). Vernaz teamed up with freshman Lise Sissler for an easy 8-3 victory over Carol Erickson and Paige Billingsley at the No. 3 doubles position. Sissler also added a win at No. 6 singles with a 6-, 6-4 victory over Erickson. lt;pgt; lt;Pgt;13; Three other Waves joined Braverman, Vernaz and Sissler in the win column on Monday. Senior Karin Schlapbach was victorious at the No. 3 slot with a 6-1, 6- decision over Sheila Leis, while Merve Asimgil and Eva Dickes posted wins at the No. 4 and No. positions, respectively.
