WOMENS TENNIS
Singles -- Andrea Lord, Loyola Marymount
Lord went 6-0 during April playing primarily at No. 2 singles, with one match at No. 3 singles. She went undefeated at the WCC Championships and earned first team All-WCC honors as she helped the Lions win their first WCC title in womens tennis defeating nationally ranked Pepperdine. Lord also earned WCC Player of the Month for March.
Doubles -- Nicole McCord/Christine Limbers, Santa Clara
The combination of McCord and Limbers went 4-3 on the month, playing mostly at No. 1 doubles. Two of their losses came to opponents from the top two teams in the WCC: Pepperdine and LMU. The third was a 9-8 decision to Saint Marys in the first round of the WCC Championships, a team the duo edged by a 9-7 scored two weeks prior. The doubles team earned strong victories over Cal Poly and Pacific, while clinching the doubles point at the WCC Championships against Portland with an 8-6 victory. The Broncos went on to win the match and earned Santa Claras highest finish ever in the league tournament, placing third.
MENS TENNIS
Singles -- Chris Lam, Santa Clara
Lam went 6-1 during the month at no. 1 singles with two wins over ranked opponents: no. 74 Marcus Bernston of Boise State 6-4, 6-2 and a come-back victory over Portlands Peter Malacek, then ranked 101, by a 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 score. Lam opened the month with five straight wins and went 4-0 against WCC opponents. The Honolulu native entered the ITA rankings at No. 116 and became the first ever in the Bronco program to be nationally ranked in singles. Lam peaked at no. 104 and is currently no. 113. Lam also became the first Bronco to ever to earn WCC Freshman of the Year honors.
Doubles -- Juan Cerda/Jason Pongsrikul, San Diego
Cerda and Pongsrikul helped the Toreros to a second place finish at the WCC Championships on April 21. The duo went 3-2 during April, including 2-1 at the WCC Championships where they earned honorable mention recognition. Ranked 41st in the nation, they started the month off in fine fashion by upsetting the 3rd-ranked team from San Diego State, Oliver Maiberger/Ryan Redondo, 8-5. They finished 14-8 this spring playing No. 1 doubles for the 12-11 Toreros.
