Mar 28-In a busy day of WCC tennis action, two men's teams and two women's teams took the court Friday afternoon. On the women's side, USF defeated Santa Clara 5-2, while Pepperdine fell to Fresno State. For the men, Pepperdine was downed by top ranked Illinois 7-0, while San Diego fell to Harvard 6-1.
WOMEN'S TEAMS
Santa Clara 5, USF 2
Santa Clara won the match with third set victories by Catherine Cochrane over Carey Savage 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 and Casey Knutson outlasting Michelle Duncan 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Both Savage and Duncan had 2-1 leads in the third set but could not hold on.

Fresno State 5, Pepperdine 2
Fresno State snapped a two-match losing streak and improved its dual match record to 8-7, while Pepperdine fell to 6-10 overall.
Freshman Merve Asimgil and sophomore Karin Schlapbach both won singles matches for the Waves. Asimgil defeated Sainz by a 6-4, 6-2 count at No. 3 singles, while Schlapbach ousted Vlatka Jovanovic by scores of 4-6, 7-5 (10-5) at the No. 4 position.

Harvard 6, San Diego 1 The University of San Diego mens tennis team saw their four-match winning streak snapped today by the visiting Harvard Crimson, 1-6. Playing their first spring match on their newly renovated USD West Tennis Courts, the Toreros managed to win just one doubles match and one singles match. Torero junior Jason Pongsrikul (San Diego, CA; Point Loma HS) was the lone winner in singles, winning 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles over Jonathan Chu. Pongsrikul and Nic Beuque, ranked No. 29 in the nation in doubles, won at No. 1 doubles, 9-7 over Harvards David Lingman and Mark Riddell. With the loss USD falls to 10-5. Theyll host Texas Tech on Saturday, March 29th at 12:30 pm.

Illinois 7, Pepperdine 0
Pepperdine had its three-match winning streak snapped and fell to 11-9 on the season.
The Waves freshmen tandem of Scott Doerner and Pedro Rico notched an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles over Illinois' junior Michael Calkins and sophomore Chris Martin. Illinois was able to capture the doubles point with wins at the #1 and #3 doubles spots.
At No. 1 singles, Rajeev Ram outlasted Calle Hansen by a 6-4, 7-6 count.
