Jan. 28 -- The Saint Mary's men's tennis team (1-2) lost its home opener to San Francisco, 6-1 on Monday afternoon. After Saint Mary's won the doubles point to start the match, USF swept the singles matches.

The lone SMC point came when the Gaels won two of the three doubles matches. Franck Schmitt and Thomas Burgemeister defeated Joakim Lien and Jorgen Arnsen at the No.1 spot 8-4. Aurturo Planell and J.J. Whitlinger defeated Axel Alvik and Mason Fuller, 9-7, at the No. 2 doubles spot to earn the doubles point.

USF swept the six singles matches to secure the win on a cold day in Moraga. The only singles match to go to three games was between Filip Sarovic of SMC and Fuller of USF. Fuller won the match 7-5, 1-6, 6-4.
