For the first time in league history, the West Coast Conference will have five teams appearing in the NCAA tournament. It is the first time the WCC has had that many mens soccer teams involved in post-season play. League champion Santa Clara earned the WCCs automatic bid, while San Diego, Loyola Marymount, Gonzaga and Portland all earned at-large bids. Santa Clara is making its 12th appearance in the tournament and will face California in the first round on Friday, November 23. The game will be played at host Stanford and the winner of the match will face the Cardinal on Sunday, November 25. Portland enters the NCAA tournament for the ninth time and will face a familiar face in the Gonzaga Bulldogs on Friday, November 23. The Zags and Pilots will go head-to-head on the University of Washington campus as the Huskies serve as the NCAA first round host. Washington will await the winner of the Gonzaga/Portland match on Sunday, November 25. Gonzaga is one of two WCC teams making their first appearance in the tournament as they get ready to face Portland this weekend. The Zags have finished first or second in the WCC four of the last five seasons and are anxious to play in the postseason for the first time. San Diego is making its third straight appearance in NCAA tournament and will host the first round for the second straight season. The Toreros earned a bye through the first round and will face the winner of the UCLA/Loyola Marymount winner on Sunday, November 25. Loyola Marymount is making its first-ever post season appearance after posting a 9-6-2 overall record. The Lions will take on the UCLA Bruins for the second time this season in the first round of the tournament held on the University of San Diego campus. LMU defeated the Bruins 1-0 earlier this year at UCLA. Please check WCCsports.com for game times later this afternoon.
