Coast Conference win at Santa Clara
Nate Jaqua's goal at 82:21 Saturday lifted #16 Portland to a 2-1 West Coast Conference win at Santa Clara. The Pilots improved to 11-4-1 overall and finished the WCC schedule with a 4-1-1 mark. Portland leads the conference with 13 points, but Gonzaga and Santa Clara each have three wins - Gonzaga has one WCC match remaining, while Santa Clara has two. Jaqua's game-winner came off a scramble in the box, capping a solid second-half showing by the Pilots. Santa Clara had taken a 1-0 lead just 7:09 into the match on Tony Cota's first goal of the season. The Broncos outshot the Pilots 7-3 in the first half. In the second half, Brandon Henley's team-high 10th goal of the year at 68:30 evened the score. Jaqua's shot was saved by SCU keeper Rusty Johnson, but the rebound came to Henley and he put it home. Portland outshot the Broncos 9-4 in the second half, and finished the game with a 10-4 edge in corner kicks.
