University of San Diego's Ryan Coiner (Aliso Viejo, CA), a sophomore forward on the men's soccer team, capped off his brilliant season by being named to the NSCAA/adidas NCAA Division I All-America Second Team.

Coiner, the 2000 co-West Coast Conference Player of the Year, led the Toreros (16-2-2) to their third straight West Coast Conference championship, and to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, by finishing with a team-high 17 goals and 42 points. Besides dishing out 8 assists on the year, he tallied 5 game-winners for USD and turned in two hat tricks during the season. The Toreros finished with a national ranking of 8th in the final NSCAA/adidas poll.

Coiner becomes USD's seventh player to garner NSCAA/adidas All-America honors -- he joins Brian O'Connor (2nd Team, 1999), Guillermo Jara (3rd Team, 1995), Roger Lindqvist (2nd Team, 1994; 3rd Team, 1993), Chugger Adair (3rd Team, 1992) and Trong Nguyen (2nd Team, 1990).

The NSCAA/adidas All-America Teams are determined by voting by NSCAA member coaches nationwide. The teams were announced this past weekend at the 2000 NCAA Men's College Cup in Charlotte, North Carolina.
