May 25-Pepperdine senior All-American Katherine Hull, who just completed a record-breaking season for the Waves' women's golf team, was chosen as the Division I "Player of the Year" by the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA), it was announced at the NCGA Awards Banquet in West Lafayette, Indiana, on Friday.
Tenth-year head coach Laurie Gibbs was selected the West Region's "Co-Coach of the Year" along with California's Nancy McDaniel. It is a second-time honor for Gibbs, who earned the West Region's "Coach of the Year" award in 1999.
Hull was also named first team All-American along with senior teammate Lindsey Wright. It marked the second straight year that Hull was tabbed a first team All-American and first time that Wright earned first team honors.
Wright was a second-team selection in 2001 and 2002, while Hull earned second team honors as a sophomore.
Hull, Wright and Gibbs all helped Pepperdine to a best-ever second place finish at the NCAA Championships in West Lafayette, Indiana, this past week.
Hull won individual medalist honors four times during the 2002-03 campaign and posted a 72.82 scoring average in 33 rounds this season. She broke her own NCAA scoring record when she carded a 63 at the San Jose State Spartan Invitational in March.
Wright completed the season with a 73.24 scoring average in 33 rounds and had nine Top 10 finishes.
