lt;Pgt;13; lt;bgt;Pilots Finish Ninth At Oregon Duck Invitational lt;bgt;lt;brgt; lt;Pgt;13; The University of Portland women146;s golf team fired a 33 on the final day of the Oregon Duck Invitational to finish in ninth place at the nine-team tournament at the par-7 Eugene Country Club. Pilot sophomore Rie Ganir led the way for Portland by finishing the 4-hole tournament with a total of (+36), good for a tie for 3th place. The Pilots as a team shot a combined 1043 (+179) for the two-day event. lt;pgt; Washington State was the overall team winner as the Cougars finished with a 913 (+49), one-stroke better than Pac-10 rival Oregon who finished with a team-score of 914 (+0). Washington State146;s Kim Welch also won the individual title after firing a 71 for the final round to finish with a 18 (+). Oregon146;s Therese Wenslow was second with a 3 (+7). Other Portland golfers include junior Marissa Crnkovich who finished in a tie for 43rd place after shooting a 61 (+4), junior Catherine Chamberlain finished with a 6 (+46), freshman Melanie Lee shot a 69 (+3) and freshman Ashley Williams fired a 83. lt;pgt; lt;Pgt;13; lt;bgt;Santa Clara finishes sixth at the Oregon Duck Invitationallt;/bgt;lt;brgt; The Santa Clara University women's golf team finished sixth at the Oregon Duck Invitational following a final round 34 Tuesday afternoon at the Eugene Country Club. lt;pgt; lt;Pgt;13; Kim Welch won individual medalist honors for the third consecutive year to lead Washington State to its second straight Oregon Duck Invitational title Tuesday at the par-7, ,968-yard course. lt;pgt; lt;Pgt;13; Welch and teammate Maria Kostina both shot final rounds of 1-under 71 to lift the Cougars to a one stroke victory over host Oregon. WSU finished the event at 913, while the Ducks came in at 914. Portland State was third at 94 and Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State tied for fourth at 99. lt;pgt; lt;Pgt;13; Welch, a junior from Sacramento, defeated Oregon's Therese Wenslow and Northridge's Elizabeth Allen by five shots. Welch, who won the Oregon Duck Invitational in 001 at Mallard Creek and last year at Shadow Hills, finished -over 18 for the tournament. lt;pgt; lt;Pgt;13; Wenslow fired a -over 74 Tuesday and her second-place tie marked a career-best finish for the sophomore from Bunkeflostrand, Sweden. She and Allen came in at 7-over 3. lt;pgt; lt;Pgt;13; Meggie Fagundes was the top finisher for the Broncos as she concluded the tournament in a tie for 13th place with her tournament total of 36. Samantha Trask carded a 1-over par, 73, on Tuesday to push her two-day total to 37, giving her 16th place by herself. lt;pgt; lt;Pgt;13; Candice Palmer finished in a tie for 3th while Courtney Dimpel-Composti finished in a tie for 37th with their three-round totals of and 3, respectively.
