Mar 3- Freshman Eileen Vargas shot a final-round score of even-par 72 on Wednesday to tie a group of three other players for eighth place at the 17-team San Jose State Spartan Invitational that was contested at the par-72 Corral de Tierra Country Club in Salinas, California. UCLA fired a tournament-best 3-under par 285 in the final round to finish at 6-under par 858 an register a 21-shot victory over second-place UNLV (879). California (882) placed third and was followed by Washington (892) and Stanford (901). Pepperdine shot a third-round 11-over par 299 to finish with a 54-hole score of 923 and tie Oregon State for 10th place. UCLA's Charlotte Mayorkas claimed indivudal medalist with a 6-under par score of 211 to defeat teammate Krystal Shearer by one shot. California's Sarah Huarte placed third with a 3-under 213. The Bruins' Susie Mathews finished four shots back at 1-under 215 and Washington's Sung Ba Lee rounded out the Top 5 at even-par 216. Vargas shots rounds of 73-75-72 for a 4-over total of 220.
