WCC Co-Players Of The Week Announced
Feb. 20, 2007 SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Chase Griffin from Pepperdine University and Brett Collins from Saint Mary's College share this week's WCC Player of the Week honor after guiding their respective teams to wins over rival opponents last week. Griffin led the Waves to a 95-88 win over rival Loyola Marymount, while Collins guided the Gaels to a 92-83 win over Bay Area foe San Francisco. Griffin was spectacular in the Waves' win over LMU, tossing in a career-high 32 points on 9-of-13 (69.2 percent) shooting from the field. The senior guard also connected on 12-of-13 attempts from the free throw line, and knocked down 2-of-3 shots from beyond the arc. Griffin did a little bit of everything on senior night, grabbing four rebounds, handing out three assists, and swiping three steals. The Sammamish, WA native's 32 points are the second highest single game total for a Wave this season.
Collins was just as impressive, tossing in a team-high 26 points on an incredible 10-of-13 shooting from the floor in the Gaels' win over the Dons. The 6-5 senior did most of his damage in the second half, scoring 22 of his 26 points after intermission on 8-of-9 shooting. In his final home game, the Phoenix, AZ native also grabbed four rebounds, dished three assists, and tallied one steal. The win solidified the Gaels' hold on fourth place in the conference standings. The weekly honor marks the first career WCC Player of the Week award for both Griffin and Collins. Griffin is the first Pepperdine player to earn the conference distinction this season, while Collins joins teammate Diamon Simpson, who has earned the award three times this season. 2006-07 WCC Players of the Week 11/13 - Matthew Knight, LMU
