June 22, 2005

Los Angeles, Calif. - After pitching three seasons for the Lions, LMU's Kyle Huddy has signed with the Cincinnati Reds. Huddy becomes the first Lion to sign as a free agent following the 2005 season, after five Lions were drafted in the 2005 Major League Baseball draft on June 7-8.

Huddy was the Lions' Sunday starter for much of 2005, making 18 appearances and pitching 52.2 innings.

Prior to the 2004 season, Huddy was named the West Coast Conference's No. 5 prospect, but ended up using his redshirt season.

In 2003, he led the Lions in ERA (3.81), complete games (two), and strikeouts (84). He was named the WCC Pitcher of the Week on February 25, 2003 after throwing 4.1 hitless innings against CSUN in his first start of the season.

One of Huddy's brightest moments in a Lion uniform was his complete game shutout of UCLA in 2003. In the match-up, Huddy struck out eight and walked just one to give the Lions their first complete game shutout in Page Stadium since 1996.

Spending four total seasons in the LMU program, the Bermuda Dunes, Calif., native graduated this May with a degree in business administration.
